Dr Rebecca Dookie Theme III PDRA

Rebecca obtained her BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry (with a year in industry) from the University of York in 2015. She completed an industrial placement as part of her undergraduate degree at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, working with the Cellular Generation and Phenotyping facility. During this placement she contributed to the generation of a global human induced pluripotent stem cell resource and optimised a CHiP Seq protocol for assessing DNA methylation in these cells. After graduating from the University of York, Rebecca started her PhD in immunology, funded by the Medical Research Council, at the University of Manchester in 2015. Under the supervision of Dr Kevin Couper and Professor Andrew MacDonald, she investigated the signals underlying T cell exhaustion during malaria and how this contributes to chronic infection. In 2019, Rebecca joined the 2D-Health project as a postdoctoral research associate working with Professor Andrew MacDonald’s group. She is focusing on the impact of graphene oxide on immune cell function and its use for cancer immunotherapy.
