Xavi received his BSc in chemistry from the University of Barcelona (2008). Following a one-year industrial placement at GlaxoSmithKline (Stevenage, UK), he joined Fernando Albericio’s and Mercedes Alvarez’s groups at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (Barcelona, Spain), where he obtained his Master (2010) and PhD (2013) degrees working on the total synthesis and structure-activity relationship studies of thiopeptide antibiotics. He then moved to the University of Manchester (UK) to work with Prof David Procter on the development of new radical cyclisation cascades triggered by samarium (II) reagents to easily access complex carbon scaffolds.
